You may be thinking what’s Bromptography? Well I’ll tell you, it’s street photography in combination with a Brompton folding bike. Add to this a Black Rapid camera strap and you are cooking on gas!
Street photography is fun but the downside is having to walk around. Man invented the wheel for a reason - to make carrying camera gear easy. Walking is slow, carrying a camera bag stuffed with gear is uncomfortable. The Brompton solves both of those issues with gusto and style.
Picture this, your gear is packed into the sizeable Brompton bag and you cycle to the train station. You have booked an advance ticket to a city of your choice. I chose London. You fold up your bike, stash it for free and let the train take the strain.
Within minutes of arrival your bike and you are ready to roll. Your camera nestles snugly behind you on the Black Rapid poised for action. You visualise a shot, glide to a stop, raise the camera and boom, boom. Satisfied, you continue looking for the next opportunity.
You may have made a route or plan but it’s fun just to wing it, to go with the flow. Feeding and watering breaks are easy too, carry your own or find a cafe, very nice.
Brompton’s are friendly bikes, they often act as a conversation starter. Pleb-gate may never have happened if he had one of these :). You will be perceived as different, not an anorak with a camera.
When the sun is setting you can whip out that tripod you have been effortlessly carrying and get some great images then retire to a pub to transfer your days efforts to your iPad over a beer before heading back home.
