Galata bridge is one of Istanbul's vibrant places, it's full of activity. The lower level is packed with restaurants whilst fishermen occupy the upper tier.
There are many people with cameras so they are used to being photographed but it's still hard to capture a meaningful image.
I had tried the location numerous times on previous days and was not getting the shot I wanted. It's generally my style to get in close but for this shot I switched to a 200mm. I wanted to capture a feeling rather than just a record. I also used a fairly shallow depth of field to isolate the subject. I like the way the angle of his body matches that of the fishing rods.
The fact that his face is sharp and the way he is stretching out his hand really captures this moment.
