Image Focus: Knifedge

This is another one of my shots that will be going into my book “Corners”. The location is London, you can just about make out part of Tower Bridge in the background.

The focal point of the image is of course the extremely sharp corner of the metal clad building. One of the motivations for my focus on corners is the possibility to have great contrast in the different directions. This is well demonstrated here. To the right we have a bustling scene, I like how the ladies are sharing the weight of the bag. To the left there is a definite contrast, quiet, empty with the silhouette of trees to set the mood.

The image uses strong leading lines to create depth and despite the building cutting the scene in half it works very well, sometimes compositional rules are meant to be broken.

The image was processed using Adobe Lightroom 5 and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.
